A lot has been said about the
Caucasian Shepherd dog and a lot of it is myth. There’s not
much information available and, what we do find is not very
reliable and it’s mostly in Russian. So, when we decided
that we wanted to invest in this breed, we realised that
we’d have to go through a hands-on learning process.
Throughout the years, we have purchased dogs from different
breeders and of different pedigrees and have picked up
information as we go along. We were motivated not by the
business per se but by the challenge of learning all about
the breed.
We bought our first Caucasian Shepherd dog in 2012, and
since then have had many others from different breeders and
different countries. We have always purchased our dogs
abroad, not because we believe in the old saying that “all
that comes from abroad is of superior quality” but because
we didn’t have much choice. Unfortunately, as we are the
only breeders in Portugal, our investment has been
considerable.
As we write this introduction (2020),we
realise we still have a long way to go. We are aware of what we
don’t want and have been working towards achieving what we do want.
All our dogs are socialised as soon as they arrive in Portugal, they
participate in exhibitions, and are trained with the help of the
best dog trainers. We are not interested in breeding aggressive
Caucasian Shepherds just for the sake of it.
What we do want is to honour this magnificent breed by ensuring that
the dogs we breed do justice to their name, that they are safe,
confident, fearless, and that they can perceive and identify a
threat from a non-threat.
